An Introduction to BrandonPhotos

Like many photographers, my early days in photography started in high school.  For me this was in the late 1970’s when film ruled and digital was a dream.

My first image published was of ice skating star Dorothy Hamill when Greenwich CT named their skating rink in her honor.  With lots of photographers present for the big event, I took a chance and jumped onto the hood the convertible she was riding in. I captured the image that set my photography career in motion.

Before attending college, I took a year off and studied photography in New York City where I landed a job as a photographer’s assistant in a professional fashion photography studio.  It was during this time that I shot almost non-stop photographing an endless stream of models ranging in experience.

Years later BrandonPhotos was born with a focus on portraits/headshots and fashion lifestyle images.

I service the central Virginia region with a clean crisp commercial style of photography.

Frequently Asked Questions

What clothing should I bring to a headshot session?

I can’t shoot it if it’s not in my studio, so bring a lot of clothes – you have to bring only clothes that you love and feel good in. Usually solid colors in dark or light tones look good and shirts with jackets always work too, so be sure to bring that.  Be aware that bright and strong colors tend to reflect on your skin (i.e. a bright red shirt will make your skin look red).

A headshot is about showing you, so any bright colors will also take attention away from your face and that’s not what we want.

Guys, a white shirt and a jacket is always a hit – bring it – bring a few ties and sweaters/vests for a quick change.

Ladies, shirts and jackets are a hit for you too. While tank tops look good, they tend to make you look naked in headshots, so I recommend that you bring clothes that covers (at least a part of) your shoulders.
